The Consulate General of Ukraine in New York and the Consulate General of Greece in New York in collaboration with the Union of Greeks of Ukraine in Greece and the Federation of Greek Societies of Ukraine, on the 2nd anniversary of the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russia are proud to present an exclusive photo exhibition dedicated to the heroic resistance to Russia's armed aggression in the two Ukrainian cities of Mariupol and Odesa, the largest historical centers of Hellenism in Ukraine
This month marks the two-year anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The Russian army, having failed to achieve the goals announced by the Kremlin at the beginning of the invasion on February 24, 2022, is conducting the main combat operations in Donbas and southern Ukraine. Every day Russian troops shell the civilian population, damage infrastructure, and destroy Ukrainian cities and villages.
The photo exhibition ‘Mariupol and Odesa. Stories of Resistance’ will feature 40 works by famous Mariupol photographers: Victor Dedov (deceased), Olena Sugak, Alina Komarova, Serhiy Makarov, Anzhela Bilodid, Lev Sandalov, Maksym Sahaidak (deceased), and Odesa photographer Oleksandr Sinelnikov. Their photos depict the most diverse stages of the life of the two Ukrainian cities with Greek roots before the war, their barbaric destruction by the Russian army, and the stories of Ukrainian resistance, which continue to this day.
The main goal of the photo exhibition is to call on the world community to continue talking about the tragedy of Mariupol and the terror of Odesa, to remember all the innocent victims, the brave defenders of Ukraine and the Greeks of Mariupol, whose unique culture is under threat of extinction.
